Horizon Wiki

Horizon greatly overhauls and expands settler options. Settlers can be assigned to missions and gain skill, outfits change based on job assignment or player choice. Settlers can be set to "essential" which makes them immortal.

Settler Assignment[]

Horizon allows to let settlers take up their work themselves. As soon as a job (building object) is available and not manned, it is automatically manned by a settler. This setting is called "Auto-Assignment" and can be set to On/Off under "Settlement Options Menu" in the Field Kit. By default its set to "On".

Once a settler starts work the HUD will show a "Job Assignment Message". The pop-up box appears with a delay, when multiple settlers take up their work.

Essential Settler[]

This new system adds an immersive way to make settlers essential, not killable, neither by the player nor non-player characters (NPC). This option is Off by default. It can be turned On in the "Local Settlement Statistics" menu, either by using the Command Table or Recruitment Station menu.

The option can only be toggled per settlement, locally, it doesn't count globally. At least 1 Doctor (Vendor Stall: Medical Center or Medical Station) in that settlement is required. If the doctor is withdrawn, the option expires and the settlers become killable again.[citation needed]

Companions working[]

Companions do no longer count as job slots for missions. Companions who are assigned will gain benefits per cycle:

  • A small amount of companion experience
  • A very small amount of affinity (max of 900 - which means you can't reach the perk with it)*
  • A random reward: 1 junk item or 6-12 pre-war money or 10-20 vendor credits*
  • A small chance to increase the appropriate Settler Skill based on the job station
  • Each cycle takes 2 realtime hours (not game hours)*
  • Rewards go into the Mission Container
  • Companion experience is not added until the next time you take the companion with you (there may be a delay)
  • Works for the following job stations: Militia, Engineer, Technician, Entertainer, Hunter, Craftsman
  • No special activation is required; once you assign them they will passively give benefits over time

Assigning at least 3 companions to work mission jobs also removes restrictions on Traveling and lets you travel from any caravan travel point.

NOTE: Some companions sometimes don't interact with assigned settlement objects, but it should still function normally

Settler Outfitter[]

Outfitter

Documentation

Settler outfitter is an automatic equipment system for settlers. It allows to assign weapons or outfits on them based on list of items. The outfitter is activated when crouching and activating a settler. Settler weapons require some crafting materials. Any existing weapons/ammo on them can be regained when equipping a new weapon.

Powerful weapons gain +75% damage, and require Settlers to have a certain amount of Smithing skill, as well as higher ballistics/energy skill.

Clothing/Armor has many different sets to choose from, and most likely more will be added in the future. Clothing sets simply require a few cloth/leather/steel for each. The old clothes are optionally and automatically transferred to the inventory.

Armor And Clothing[]

Armor and Clothing sets come in a variety of styles. Equipment categories:

  • Clothing,
  • Leather,
  • Metal.

Each category of armor usually requires different materials. All armor in same category provides the same protection. The destination of where the old clothing is put, can be selected in the settler outfitter options menu. This automated process is done on purpose, because the game will destroy existing clothing.

Auto-Equip[]

Outfits can be applied automatically to settlers when they are assigned to jobs or defense. The first time a job tries to be assigned, it will popup a help message to give the option to change the defaults. The options can be changed in the "Settler Outfitter Options" (Architect Options). Various default outfit styles can be chosen for Militia and Guard Posts: Mercenary, Minuteman, Army, Off.

Buildings like Mission Jobs, Vendor Stall, production yards, farming activities, Supply Depots, Town Sheriff will give unique outfits.

Settler Outfitter Options[]

Settler outfitter options can be changed in the Field Kit > Architect > "Settler Outfitter Options". The following options can be changed:
